CardHunt
Buying Pokémon cards to grade when you live in Europe
Short answer: a cheap raw card on eBay is only a deal if the total cost still leaves room for grading. From Europe that total includes shipping, and for sellers outside the EU also import fees and VAT. CardHunt lets you pick your country, hide listings that do not ship there, and cap how much extra cost you accept.
Why the listing price is not the price you pay
A raw card listed at $20 can cost much more once it arrives. Shipping to Europe is often several dollars or euros, and for a seller outside the EU the parcel can also carry import VAT and a handling fee from the carrier. Those amounts differ per country and per listing, so the same card can be a good buy in one country and a poor one in another.
That matters most for cheap cards. Grading has fixed costs: the PSA fee, shipping the card to the grader and back, and the fees when you sell the slab. If extra buying costs push a $20 card to $32, the chance of a PSA 10 you need to break even goes up with it. The PSA grading calculator shows that break-even chance for any card.
EU sellers versus US sellers
A seller inside the EU usually ships within the single market, so there is no import VAT or customs step for you. A seller in the US often has the larger supply and lower prices, but you pay for that in shipping and import costs, and some US sellers do not ship to your country at all.
CardHunt scans eBay.com and also eBay.de and eBay.nl. German and Dutch sellers show up next to the US ones, and listings can be filtered by where the seller is.
How to filter for your country on CardHunt
- Open eBay finds and choose your country next to the currency. You can switch the display currency to euros.
- Set Delivery to “Ships to my country” to hide listings the seller does not send to you. With a Hunter account you can also allow extra costs up to 10%, 25% or 50% of the price (shipping, import fees and VAT). Listings we have no shipping data for yet stay visible, so check those on eBay.
- Set Seller to EU if you want the lowest extra costs, or to US if you accept them for a bigger choice.
- Sort by Best potential to see listings where the photos show strong centering, corners and edges first, then compare the expected profit if the card grades a PSA 10.
What CardHunt cannot tell you
- Shipping and import costs are estimates. The final amount is what eBay shows at checkout, so always check it there.
- Combined shipping from the same seller, and the carrier's own handling fees, are not predictable.
- A potential label is based on the listing photos. It says nothing about surface scratches, print lines or whitening you cannot see, and it is not a grade.
- PSA's fees and the service available to you depend on where you send the card from. Check psacard.com before you submit.
